2014 Has been very tough here with ill health and a little bad luck. We finished the year off as top prize winners in our club and won 6 x 1st section federations. The problem was my dad became ill in the summer and we then had to fly the young birds as naturals and they srtuggled a little to keep up with darkness birds. My dad is still recovering and at the minute spends no time with the birds, I have to do all the birds now but I do enjoy them so this is a pleasure to do.
2015 - We hope to race in 2015 but who knows what will happen, we do not really know where we will race in 2015 but hope to send in the BICC and NFC . Merry Christmas to all our friends - we wish you all the luck in the world and hope 2015 is good to you all. The first race has finally come, we sent 48 birds to Salisbury , 96 miles to us.. The wind is not in our favour and is the worst wind we can have but returns are the order of the day . These birds are getting prepared for bigger races in 2 weeks time. Fingers crossed for a good race with good returns.
We have been very busy weaning the young birds and preparing the older birds for the coming races. Racing starts in 2 weeks and we are a little behind but hope to send a few to the first race on the 19th of April. The weather has been awful this last week but looking forward it is going to improve tomorrow afternoon and for the coming week.
Our training is also behind with no birds being trained yet, we are not panicing though and we will be there in a few weeks. The season is long and we do not want to throw birds away for the sake of sending them early. 2014 team - we have a good team of birds here and have high expectations. fingers crossed lady luck is looking down on us in 2014. I will post more once racing has started. We are a little behind this year due to the bad weather and the changes we have done to the lofts. All the birds are now paired with most on eggs. We hope to have young hatching mid to late March and with no test loft this year we will have 85% home bred youngsters int he race team. We are really looking forward to racing in 2014 and have a very strong team for the task ahead. - One of the many reds we have sitting eggs. He is paired to a black hen so fingers crossed for a pair of barless mealies. We would like to wish all our friends from far and wide a very merry christmas. We hope 2014 is a prosperous and rewarding year for you all.
Have a super festive season. anthony and bryan 2013 has come to an end and looking back a very successful year was had by us. We tried very hard and got a few wins which will carry us through the cold winter months.
The young birds are maturing by the day and are going out most days now. The cold weather is not very good for them but once the sun comes we will start a routine of going out at the same time every day. We have had some really nice test loft birds in and the loft is nearly closed now for entries, only a few more to come in. The race birds are starting to get fit and we hope to have them ready in 2 weeks time for the Salisbury race that is 96 miles. All is going to plan and we hope to have a little luck and do well in 2013. The young are being weaned on a daily basis, We have had a good hatch but reds and mealy's are not high in numbers. I have promised a few out but at the minute have very few for ourselves. We have received 24 test loft birds and they are a credit to the breeders. 2013 will be our last year holding a test loft, we want to go out with a bang and win a classic with them. Weather is soo cold and it does nto look good Breeding is well underway and considering the cold weather we have had a good hatch. On the left is Dickie boy our top breeding van reet, in 2012 he only had 1 young one hatch out so to have 2 in the first nest is very good. The only downside to breeding this year is the lack of reds and mealy's, we treasure these as they have been very good for us racing and breeding but 2013 does not look like we have many of them. We will enter 1 from Dickie in a 1 loft race. |
